Understanding the Benefits of Working with Horses for Mental Health
Introduction

Individual Eagala sessions offer children, young people, and adults an unique, hands-on approach to supporting mental health and emotional well-being. Eagala, which stands for Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association, is a specialised method that brings together qualified mental health professionals, equine specialists, and horses in a safe, non-judgemental environment.

Our team has experience with all ages, working within Mainstream, Emotional Behavioural Difficulty (EBD) Schools, Pupil Referral Units and Social Service Establishments.
Healing through horses

Unlike traditional talk therapies, Eagala sessions are experiential, meaning that participants learn and heal through direct experiences with horses rather than through conversation alone. Horses are highly intuitive animals that respond to human emotions and behaviours with honesty and sensitivity.Their size, presence, and natural instincts can help individuals better understand themselves, build trust, and develop new coping skills.
Improved Mental Health
For children and young people, the sessions can be especially beneficial in encouraging self-expression, confidence, and resilience. Adults often find that engaging with horses allows them to confront challenges, explore relationships, and gain fresh perspectives on their own lives. The benefits of working with horses in addressing mental health issues are wide-ranging. Participants frequently report reduced anxiety, improved emotional regulation, and strengthened self-esteem.

Teamwork and Problem-solving
The non-verbal communication required in Eagala sessions helps individuals become more mindful and present, while the teamwork and problem-solving involved foster a sense of achievement and connection. Whether someone is dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply seeking personal growth, Eagala sessions offer a powerful and supportive path towards healing.
